Frequently asked questions
Individual sessions
Q: How do I book an appointment?
A: The best thing to do is to book a discovery call with me first. If you feel that I can help you, I can send you further information on how to book an appointment via Practice Better.
Q: Where will the appointments take place?
A: The appointments will take place using videoconferencing via Practice Better. This will allow our sessions to take place anywhere that is convenient for you.
Q: What will happen at each session?
A: The first session will be 60 minutes, and each follow-up will be 30 minutes.
Prior to your first session with me, I'll ask you to fill out an intake form so I can get an idea of what you are eating and drinking. I'll also describe my services to you, what they entail, and ask you to fill out a consent form and sign a client agreement prior to starting. In the first session, you and I will talk about what you want to get out of seeing me and talk about what you want to do. I will consider your unique needs and we will work together to find the best solution for you.
In follow-up sessions, which are 30 minutes each, we'll talk about what worked and what could be improved and any other issues you want to discuss.
Q: How often will the follow-up sessions happen?
A: We can talk about what would be best for you. I would recommend following up again every four weeks so you can take the time to make whatever change is necessary. I am open to whatever works for you.
Q: Are the follow-up sessions necessary?
A: It takes time for meaningful changes to happen. I can provide support and guidance in the follow-up sessions that can help maintain these changes. I have come up with two different packages that can help you. If you feel you need less time or money is a concern, choose the package with three follow-up appointments. If you feel you need more time or if price is no object, choose the package with six follow-up appointments.
Q: What will I get from seeing you?
A: Each person's reason for seeing me will be different. I will work with you to help you meet you meet your own goals and concerns. I will use the latest research-based evidence to help you meet those goals.
Q: How long will it take before I start seeing results?
A: That depends entirely on you. Nutritional counseling is a process that takes time and varies with each person. I will help you and work with you to find ways to help you accomplish your unique goals.
Q: Will your services help me gain or lose weight?
A: Whether you wish to lose or gain weight from these services is entirely up to you. Your concerns will be different than those of another person. I would not specifically recommend weight gain or loss unless you state that this is a desired goal related to performance.
Q: Do you accept insurance? How can I pay for your services?
A: I can now accept direct billing from a number of companies. We can talk about whether your insurance company is set up for direct billing. It is a good idea to check with your insurance company to see if they will cover dietitian services.
If your insurance company does not allow direct billing, I can issue you a receipt for services provided that you can present to your insurance company for reimbursement. Please let me know what your insurance covers and what they will need.
Group presentations
Q: What sort of topics will you cover in your presentations?
A: I will present on any sports-nutrition related topic that you want to discuss, whether it be general sports nutrition or more specific topics related to sports nutrition (e.g. appropriate hydration and fueling before, during and after events and/or training, benefits of certain nutrients).
Q: How long will the presentations be?
A: The length of time will vary by topic and how much time your club or group has available.
Q: Will there there be time for questions afterwards?
A: I will definitely make time for people to ask questions. Engagement and understanding are
important so that everyone gets the most out of a presentation.
